On May 18, 1966, Paul Joseph Chartier, among other things, a disillusioned and unemployed security guard and former truck driver, attempted a deadly act of terrorism on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Chartier planned to throw a homemade dynamite bomb into the House of Commons chamber, targeting politicians he blamed for societal injustices and his personal failures. However, the bomb detonated prematurely in a washroom, killing only Chartier himself. This tragic incident drew significant attention at the time, leading to investigations by the RCMP and led to a federal inquiry.

Episode 225: In our last episode we learned that in Saskatoon, on the morning of January 31, 1969, a 12-year-old girl on the way to school stumbled upon the body of Gail Miller, a 20-year-old nurse’s aide, lying in the snow in an alley. Gail had been raped, murdered and discarded in the snow by her killer. As there had been a number of sexual assaults in the city, police were under enormous pressure to solve the murder and soon their attention turned to 16-year-old David Edgar Milgaard. He’d been in the neighbourhood and at a home nearby the alley where Gail’s body lay on the morning of the murder. Witnesses later claimed he’d seen blood on David’s clothing and gave other incriminating information to police. Milgaard was subsequently arrested and charged with Gail’s murder.Exactly a year after the murder, Milgaard was convicted of the murder and sentenced to a term of life in prison — justice, it appeared, had been served. We’ll find out, that was not the case at all. Episode 202: Mathew Charles Lamb was a troubled and disturbed youngster. He was born in Windsor, Ontario, unwanted, to a teenage mother and bounced from one relative’s home to another, never having close relationships with any of them. To him they were merely his keepers. The rules they laid out for him to follow were bothersome to him. Young Matt was incorrigible. He became violent early on, many of the other kids in his family and in the neighbourhood were terrified of him. After a number of run ins with local police and several violent incidents involving firearms, one including a shootout with police, Mathew Lamb was jailed  in the Kingston Pen for the first time — he was just 16. Episode 158 - Twenty-three-year-old nurse and former beauty queen, Alexandra Wiwrachuk, thought the warm spring night in 1962 would be perfect for a walk down by the river before her midnight shift at Saskatoon’s City Hospital. Alexandra did not show up for work that night, and it was not until thirteen days later that children stumbled upon her broken body in a shallow grave. Someone had savagely beaten the young woman, brutally raped her and then buried her alive, leaving her to die. Episode 150: Beginning at 7:19 pm Atlantic Daylight Time, on the evening of October 4, 1967, an airline pilot reported seeing an unidentified flying object heading east over Southern Quebec. About 30 minutes later, calls began coming into local authorities reporting strange lights in the sky over the Atlantic Ocean along Nova Scotia’s South Shore. The multiple sightings continued until 11:20 pm that evening when something large crashed into the water just off Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia. The mysterious and odd events of that evening are one of Canada’s most enduring and well-documented UFO sightings. Episode 102 - On the morning of August 15, 1967, in what was one of the most heinous random crimes ever to have happened in Canada, 9 members of the Peterson family of Shell Lake Saskatchewan were found gunned down in their modest farmhouse. Jim and Evelyn Peterson and 7 of their 9 children lay dead with no rhyme or reason for the crime. A madman was on the loose on the prairies.
